Defending the poor: Nigerian Civil Society Leader attacked

Defending the poor in Nigeria poses great challenges and risks to individuals who have the courage to do so. Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, the Executive Director of  Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Center (CISLAC)  was  physically attacked by members of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) task force.

What was his crime?  Attempting to save a young teenage girl from being arrested for street hawking (selling peanuts on the streets).

Acts of this kind should not be tolerated. The poor need a voice and incidents of this nature are discouraging for those wishing to be good Samaritans. Government should investigate the incident and take action against the culprits.
